Job Title: College and Career Advisor

Location: Cross County High School

 

Who are we?

 

Cross County High School, a New Tech School (CCHS) is a 7th-12th grade high school located in Cherry Valley, AR. Our school’s vision is to provide all students with the opportunities and experiences necessary to live a passion-driven life. As we continue to grow towards our vision, we have found that innovation is key to ensuring that all students find success at CCHS and beyond.  In recent years, we implemented school-wide project-based learning and problem-based learning with the New Tech Network, the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP), and created the CCHS C^3 (College x Career x Choice) Program.

 

Position Description

 

The primary responsibility of the College and Career Advisor is to ensure that post-secondary graduation is an option for all CCHS students. The College and Career Advisor is responsible for teaching students and families early the skills necessary to be successful; understanding the admissions and financial aid process; and ensuring students are supported as they work towards college graduation. The CCHS College and Career Advisor works to ensure that 100% of CCHS students are prepared to matriculate to college or a rigorous post-secondary career-training program upon high school graduation.

 

The College and Career Advisor will report directly to the CCHS C^3 Program director.

 

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year educational institution is required

  • Prior experience working with students and their families from low-income communities with demonstrable results, preferably as a teacher, college advisor, college admissions counselor, or at an institution of higher education support office (strongly preferred)

The College and Career Advisor’s responsibilities include:

 

  • Provide individualized admissions, financial-aid advice, and college and career matriculation advice to students and families

  • Organize and execute events that promote students and families to consider, plan for, and apply to postsecondary opportunities, such as parent nights, college trips, and college fairs

  • Organize and execute events and opportunities that allow for students to engage in career and professional activities, such as job shadowing, networking nights, and internships

  • Establish productive working relationships with school leaders and teachers in the assigned high school, as well as community members, and CCHS C^3 Program staff

  • Push-in to classes to teach content related to postsecondary readiness

  • Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of CCHS C^3 Program

  • Maintain expertise in admissions and financial-aid advising

  • Track student data (contact notes, college matriculation information, financial aid, scholarships, etc.)

  • A willingness to travel for professional development and college/career trips

  • All other duties that may be required to ensure post-secondary attainment

Job Title: Alumni Advisor

Location: Arkansas; this position requires regional travel

Position Description

 

The primary role of the Alumni Advisor is to support alumni of Cross County High School students to and through college. The Alumni Advisor provides support and counseling to CCHS students in college (focusing on college persistence, college completion and career readiness). Alumni Advisors advocate for greater support and investment for low-income, underrepresented and/or first generation college students to help eliminate barriers to college matriculation and graduation. This role requires excellent communication and attention to detail and deadlines.

The Alumni Advisor’s responsibilities include:

 

  • Manage a caseload of postsecondary students who have graduated from CCHS and provide advising services focused on postsecondary persistence, the transfer process, postsecondary completion, and career readiness

  • Track student data (contact information, grades, financial aid, scholarships, etc.)

  • Support alumni in maintaining/improving postsecondary financial aid packages

  • Develop and maintain contacts at colleges and universities in order to provide outstanding alumni support and potential alumni clustering

  • Provide alumni with consistent information on postsecondary scholarships and organizations focused on postsecondary persistence and completion

  • Outreach to and support alumni not enrolled in postsecondary and create postsecondary matriculation or alternate career pathway plans for those students

  • Support a postsecondary ambassador cohort(s) or other postsecondary initiatives

  • Support the planning and facilitation of a series of college connections workshops at local high schools

  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of the annual college transition program

  • Research/assist alumni with placement in summer opportunities/programs/internships

  • Consistently collaborate and grow professionally with other C^3 Program staff

  • Spend a significant amount of time on campuses supporting CCHS’ alumni

  • All other duties that may be required to ensure post-secondary attainment

TIF Project Director – Cross County, Arkansas

 

The Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) Project Director position supports all aspects of TIF activities with the implementation and management of the proposed TIF grant. These duties include working with Cross County School District to recruit and retain educators, Arkansas Tech University to implement the higher education partnership, and NIET to help implement the TAP System, to include trainings, partnership support, and evaluation. This position will be directed by the CCSD Superintendent or designee.  

 

Duties May Include, But Are Not Limited to:

 

Oversee Implementation of Teacher Incentive Fund Grant

  • Oversee trainings, district support, evaluation, and report to leadership team as requested

  • In alignment with the grant funded project, work with partnership leadership to:

    • Oversee TIF operations in schools;

    • Provide training for teachers and administrators in TAP schools;

    • Provide on-site technical assistance to schools;

    • Conduct principal observations; and,

    • Recruit and retain the most effective educators.

 

Grant Management and Compliance

  • Provide budget accountability and submit timely reports to the Department of Education to demonstrate compliance with grant requirements as requested

  • Coordinate all staff associated with the grant project, as applicable

  • Work with district leadership to ensure fidelity to the TIF project, including the selection, training and supervision of new positions hired under the assigned grant

  • Work with the partnership’s leadership to secure long-term sustainability of TIF goals

  • Lead annual meetings of the advisory boards, as applicable

  • Conduct presentations at district and other events

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Preferred  Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years K-12 classroom teaching experience (elementary or secondary) or experience directing grants

  • Knowledge of curriculum development and best instructional practices

  • Experience working with higher education partnerships (preferred)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work directly with administrators and teachers in Cross County schools

  • Master’s degree in education
